Maces are one of the oldest types of cold steel weapons, with which different tribes resolved territorial disputes. Due to the relative simplicity of its manufacture, people quickly came up with the idea of creating a mace, back in the Neolithic era. And with each new material for processing and creating tools of labor or war, the tops of maces became bronze, and then iron. It is not for nothing that in the canonical images of Ukrainian hetmans, starting with Bohdan Khmelnytsky, they always hold this weapon in their hand. This association is so deeply rooted in our consciousness that it is as difficult to imagine a hetman without a mace as it is to imagine a fairy godmother without a magic wand. By the way, in Poland, instead of the marshal's baton, which, according to Napoleon, is in the backpack of every good soldier, a marshal's mace is used.
