This chess set is dedicated to ancient mythology, featuring chess pieces crafted like Ancient Greek gods and warriors. Hercules (the pawn), the greatest hero of ancient mythology, is often depicted wearing the lion’s skin obtained during the first of his 12 labours. The almighty Zeus (the King), the father of the hero as well as the Lord of all other gods, holds lightning in his hand. Athena (the Queen), depicted as an armed protector of justice and all honest people, has been always helping Hercules in his labours. Apollo (the Bishop) is the god of art and light. A centaur (the Knight) once abducted Hercules’ wife, so the hero had to kill him in order to save his beloved. By the irony of fate, it was the centaur’s poisonous blood that caused the death of Hercules many years later.
The chessboard is made of high-quality electroplated bronze. The chess pieces are made of zinc alloy using a modern injection moulding technique.
