The history of Crosley is also worthy of being captured by cameras. And this concerns both the brand and its creator, whose surname became the name of the company.

The history of the Crosley brand

Powell Crosley Jr. was a figure of Edisonian proportions. Whatever he undertook, it turned out well, bringing success and money to his creator. The latter - with the help of his brother Lewis, who had good business skills. First, they began the conquest of America through the automotive industry. At first, there were various car accessories that Powell created, and Lewis sold. Over time, the brothers grew to the point of founding their own car concern, to which they also gave their surname as the name of the car brand. Crosley cars were small cars, accessible to a wide audience. Powell's successes and innovative inventions did not go unnoticed a year later. In 2010, he was inducted into the American Automobile Hall of Fame.

Even before building the car empire, the Crosley brothers conquered the radio market. They started with the tactics that later brought success in car sales. At that time, the 1920s, radios were expensive, up to $100. And the company managed to create the Crosley Pup model, which cost less than $10. The emphasis on the mass market while maintaining product quality allowed the brand to become the largest radio manufacturer of its time. The logical continuation was the launch of its own radio station. It is known primarily for being among the stations on which the famous «Voice of America» began to speak. In general, it is absolutely logical that Powell Crosley once again got into the hall of fame – this time Radio, in 2013.

The circle of interests of our hero was as boundless as his talent. He produced airplanes under the Crosley Aircraft Company brand, manufactured refrigerators (in particular, it was Powell who invented the shelves for their doors), owned his own baseball team "Cincinnati Reds", whose games he broadcast on his radio. In this, Crosley also acted as a pioneer. The great inventor also worked for the army, among the developments for which (of course) a radio fuse stands out. This thing allowed to detonate a shell on order in case of a miss on the target, in order to cause at least some damage. It is funny that Powell did not have the necessary access to the army developments, and he did not know that his company became the leader in the USA in the production of radio fuses, which were produced at his own factory.

In 1945, the Crosley brand was sold to the Avco airline, which, apparently, was looking for investment opportunities at that time. With the new owner, Crosley began to produce televisions, but due to unprofitability they were closed in 1956, while Powell Crosley died 5 years later. The brand would have remained in history, but about 30 years ago, people appeared who breathed new life into it. The brand's salvation was a reorientation to the production and sale of Crosley vinyl players, which immediately received positive reviews.
