We offer you a rare edition of the album of paintings From Ukrainian Olden Time, which has become the continuation of the excellent collection of etchings Picturesque Ukraine by the outstanding poet and artist Taras Shevchenko. The aim of this edition is to provide a story about the past of Ukraine. The provided portraits are supplemented and peculiarly commented on by drawings of battles, scenes of everyday life and landscapes. The accompanying text for the drawings was written by a famous Ukrainian archaeologist and historian, a friend of Ilya Repin, professor Dmytro Yavornitsky. Portraits for the album were painted in watercolours by S. Vasilkovsky, and drawings were created by M. Samokish.
The album features the original folder; it has minor scuffs and traces of the restoration of the folder. The title page and explanatory text are presented in Russian and French.
