The history of Manopoulos began in 1970 in Athens, when 21-year-old Kostas Manopoulos, who was studying at the University of Fine Arts, created his first bronze chess pieces for a young talents exhibition. The result inspired him to open his own small shop in the centre of the Greek capital, where Kostas began selling handcrafted chess and backgammon sets.
